No Barriers, No Protection
We try to fill these rooms with laughter, conversation and instruction.
We try to keep anxiety at bay.
That's why it hurts when cold creeps in.
Most of us just want to be happy. Everyone wants to be safe.
How can we aim for the same goal - end up in a different place?
No barriers for capital.
No protection at all.
It's so cold tonight it will trouble the foxes; they're keeping their heads down.
It feels like we're walking on a treadmill
Going nowhere, anger turning inwards.
Facing down accusations - gravity don't apply
You’re a judge, you’re under oath; revert to type and lie.
No barriers for privilege.
No protection against the rich.
Why is it so hard for us to grasp that the vulnerable need to be protected?
Why is it so hard for us to understand the importance of history and context?
How have we come so far and yet we still discriminate based on sexuality and gender?
What is it that we don't get about the link between the health of our fragile planet and the extinction of our species?
Why do we constantly vote into power people to whom self-interest is a religion?
Why are we unable to mount a credible opposition to all of the above?

Ska Punk as good as it gets. Other bands would benefit from taking notes. Culture Shock is relevant as always with the contemporary lyrics, and the music will force you to nod in rhythm whether you want to or not. Droote

Great debut with some awesome melodic guitar work. The guest vocals from Marcelo on Sick is such a standout. Other highlights include My Funeral Pyre, Red Alert (I go against the grain, I'm a minority of one), Journey, and Bandoleros. kdnx

Heartfelt, powerful writing. Besides the first track, the title track is another great one, as well as No X-Ray Vision (which would be really cool as a slower, quieter song too). kdnx
The Minneapolis band add a horn section, a running surrealist allegory about walls, and an occasional nod to the elegiac to their electroshocked post-punk. Bandcamp Album of the Day Mar 4, 2024

A fantastic album. I can see why they didn't continue under the name The Evens, as it's a different sound with the bass added. Coriky is the Evens + Joe Lally from Fugazi on bass. If you can imagine The Evens with a slightly more funky, aggressive sound like Fugazi... that's what you get! And there's no way that can ever go wrong. What a great debut album!! smiledozer
